Making Sure Your Refrigerator Will Fit
By ProMatcher Staff
Refrigerator Installation: Will it fit?
Fit is everything when purchasing a new refrigerator. If you are remodeling your entire kitchen, you will have a wide range of options to pick from. Your contractor will help make sure the new fridge will fit appropriately between cabinets or other structures.
However, when only replacing the refrigerator, it is important that it fits within existing structures. Measuring the dimensions of the appliance is not always enough. You should also double check that the doors will be able to open and close properly without scratching the cabinets, obstructing walkways, or blocking access to other appliances. You should be able to open every drawer and reach every compartment.
Is space an issue?
If space is limited in your kitchen, a side-by-side refrigerator with smaller doors may be a good option. Also, it is often possible to change the direction the door of your refrigerator swings by moving the hinge to the opposite side. Purchasing a refrigerator that fits properly within the existing structures in your kitchen, without making any changes, will help you save time and money.
